UX Goals- Publishing Task 2

Now that I'm a UX and CMS expert I can now begin on the  construction of my very own site, but I first have to decide what type of site I will create and also the ux features to include in them. Let's discuss it below.

“What I'll Be Building”

For my final project I will be building my very own CMS website. My plans are to build a blog/ review site of the best dinner spots in Dublin. The site will ideally be refined by pricing, food type and location. In order to build a successful site I will need to consider the principles of UX design. Two UX features from the Usability Geek site which is will be most definitely be including in my site can be listed as follows:

  1. Increase page margins or choose a log theme with large margins as default. This is important as blog posts can have up to 1000 words! With the increasing of the margins it encourages the reader to read every single word of the post, it keeps the reading scrolling and thus keeps them engaged.

  2. Provide legible and large fonts. This obvious and simple UX tip can often go overlooked, typography and font size can affect how the content is consumed or if even consumed at all. The recommended size for reading is between 12-16pt

“Why Build It”

I want to create a blog page for local foodies such as myself. Dublin has so much to offer when it comes to the food scene and there is an array of possibilities when it comes to locations so the potential to make a big and well defined site is there. For my site to be easy to navigate I want to ensure that the navigation is clear and well defined and that the user can always find their way back to the blog landing page . I also want to have the possibility for comments, for viewers to view comments reply to them and even create their own.

"How To Build It"

As a potential food blog creator , I decided to research the best themes and plugins to use for a food blog, here's what I came up with:

Astra

This WordPress theme comes with an array of benefits , it has numerous site templates included in the theme, one of which is a food blog template. It's a good choice as it provides a template that satisfies the type of site I want to create, it also integrates with popular page builder plugins such as elementor, brizy and beaver builder.

Smash balloon

This is a plugin that allows for the addition of an Instagram feed in a website. I would like to add some sort of Instagram feed linking to other food critics or even local food hotpots for my site.

Everest Forms

I will include a form section for recommendations/ blog reviews from readers or even restaurant owners

  1. I enjoyed your blog post for this publishing task and as you are considering to do similar UX features like me for example you will also make it accessible for any person to read and uphold their attention span as you have stated that posts can stretch their word count to as far as 1000 words. A block of writing that big will discourage users from staying on your site. 👍🏼
